Network Setup

The server phone requires a stable internet connection to synchronize data with the OVES cloud platform. This page covers how to configure Wi-Fi and mobile data for reliable connectivity.

Connectivity Options

Wi-Fi is the preferred connection method for server phones due to its stability and lower cost.

Connect to Wi-Fi

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Select the station's Wi-Fi network.
  3. Enter the password and connect.
  4. Enable Auto-reconnect for the selected network.

Verify the Connection

  1. Open a browser on the phone.
  2. Navigate to any website (e.g., https://google.com).
  3. If the page loads, the connection is working.

Tip

If the Wi-Fi network requires a captive portal (login page), complete the login and check "Remember this network" if the option is available.

Use mobile data as a primary connection when Wi-Fi is unavailable, or as a fallback.

Set Up Mobile Data

  1. Insert a SIM card with an active data plan into the phone.
  2. Go to Settings > Mobile Network (or Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks).
  3. Enable Mobile Data.
  4. Select the correct SIM card if the phone is dual-SIM.

Verify the Connection

  1. Disable Wi-Fi temporarily.
  2. Open a browser and navigate to any website.
  3. If the page loads, mobile data is working.
  4. Re-enable Wi-Fi if it is also configured.

Warning

Ensure the data plan has sufficient monthly data. A server phone typically uses 500 MB – 2 GB per month depending on the number of managed devices and sync frequency.

For maximum reliability, configure both Wi-Fi and mobile data:

  • The phone will use Wi-Fi as the primary connection.
  • If Wi-Fi drops, it will automatically fall back to mobile data.
  • When Wi-Fi is restored, the phone switches back.

No additional configuration is needed — Android handles this failover automatically.

Next Steps

With the network configured, the server phone setup is complete. If you encounter any issues, refer to the Troubleshooting page for common problems and solutions.
